Pat Cox.
Between him and Máire Geoghegan Quinn they are the only credible candidates who actually have a chance.
Ruairi Quinn would be nice he's not FF so no chance of that happening.
Pat Cox definitely has the background and experience and it might help us in getting a decent high level portfolio.

Cheers for that.
Since it's either going to be a Fianna Fáiler or Pat Cox, I just hope it's not Eoin Ryan or Mary Coughlan.
Both Marie and Pat are well respected in the EU and the could probably use their EU experience to get more from the job. Can see Pat Cox getting the nod since he came home to canvass hard on the Yes campaign.
The only thing stopping him could be that Barroso has said that he wants more ladies in the Commission. Máire Geoghegan Quinn has spent years working in Brussels, but not being close to home may have her out of the Fianna Fáil loop

| I don't know the background on a few of the runners but have to say I was impressed by Pat Cox during the referendum. His experience showed.

Brian Cowen has nominated Máire Geoghegan-Quinn as Ireland's next European Commissioner.
http://www.rte.ie/news/2009/1117/eu1.html
She'll now have to be approved by Commission President Manuel Barroso, which shouldn't be an issue since he has been pleading for more women on his cabinet.
She'll also face public scrutiny from the European Parliament as it is their responsibility to grill prospective Commissioners.
Poll closed.
